Perla, Associate Director of Programs, was born in Estado de México and moved to Portland in 2006. Perla began her involvement in Oregon civic engagement at a young age when she joined the Multnomah Youth Commission. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies. While in college, Perla continued her advocacy work in various student organizations including MEChA and the Coalition Against Environmental Racism, and community-based organizations including OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon and Momentum Alliance. Post-college, Perla worked with the Oregon Student Association (OSA) leading voting registration and get out the vote campaigns in various university and community college campuses. As Legislative Director with the Student Association, she led Oregon Student Associations legislative agenda successfully passing five policy bills including in-state tuition for undocumented Graduate Students. She also worked to secure millions of dollars in funding for higher education from the state legislature. Most recently, Perla lead the #wecountoregon campaign statewide field efforts to ensure Hard-to-Count Oregonians get counted in the 2020 census. In her free time, Perla enjoys hiking with her partner, dancing cumbia, and spending time with her family.
